The Platform have been so busy over the last year! The Platform celebrated it's first birthday in may, and we have been trying to get our facebook page up and running whilst also becoming more and more involved with the local community.
At the beginning of the year, the volunteers took part in a feed the hungry event, packaging meals for starving children accross the world. Volunteers at one end of the line, weighed and packed each component of the food packs, whilst our volunteers packaged each food pack into a box and sealed with tape.
Not long after, the volunteers went into Doncaster centre to advertise what The Platform is and what they do day to day. The volunteers baked lots of cakes to sell and took leaflets to hand to the public.
The Platform had two events in it's back garden, the first being an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party for all it's volunteers and the staff at Quarryfields to thank them for their hard work throughout the year. The volunteers spent the morning cooking and plating up foods and decorating the garden with characters from the story. We had the cheshire cat, the card soldiers, the smoking caterpillar, even Alice herself came to the tea party. It was a wonderful event that was enjoyed by all who attended.
The second event in the garden was "Exemplar's culinary festival". Each home from Exemplar Health care and it's head office were invited to have a stall and to cook foods from a country of our choice, we had Ireland, France, Jamaica, Mexico and many more. Members of the public were invited to come to the event and buy food from the stalls. The Platform had also raised some money which was used to pay for meals for homeless and in need people from it's local church.
The final big event The Platform held, was it's Christmas Fayre. We served hot pork and stuffing sandwiches and hot drinks. There was a huge craft stall and tombola and lucky dip. Father Christmas even stopped by to hand out gifts to everyone. It was a lovely event!
These are just a small selection of some of the fantastic things The Platform has been involved with this year! We hope you all had an amazing 2019 and start out 2020 just as great! Our new years resolution? Keep up to date with the blogging! Happy new year everyone!
